Open Access Journal: Arqueología y Territorio: Revista del Programa de Doctorado "Arqueología y Territorio"

Arqueología y Territorio: Revista del Programa de Doctorado "Arqueología y Territorio"
ISSN: 1698-5664
http://www.ugr.es/~arqueologyterritorio/Imagenes/caratula.jpg

Open Access Journal: Arabian Humanities. International Journal of Archaeology and Social Sciences in the Arabian Peninsula

[First posted in AWOL 17 August 2013, updates 2 November 2017]

Arabian Humanities. International Journal of Archaeology and Social Sciences in the Arabian Peninsula

Arabian Humanities is the continuation of the earlier Chroniques yéménites journal, published by the French Center for Archaeology and Social Sciences in Sanaa (CEFAS) from 1993. It broadens its scope to the entire Arabian Peninsula, and is now resolutely oriented towards international research networks.

Arabian Humanities is a peer-reviewed journal. It is multilingual (articles published in French, English or Arabic, with abstracts in the two other languages), and freely available on internet.

Arabian Humanities intends, through biennial issues, to cover all areas of the humanities from prehistory to contemporary societies in the Arabian Peninsula. Constructed around a specific theme, each issue will also include independent articles and book reviews on the latest publications on the Arabian Peninsula appearing in European languages and Arabic.

The Digitizing Tell en-Naṣbeh (Biblical Mizpah of Benjamin) Project

The Digitizing Tell en-Naṣbeh (Biblical Mizpah of Benjamin) Project
Figure 57
Tell en-Naṣbeh is an archaeological site about 12 km (eight miles) north of the Old City of Jerusalem and south of the modern Palestinian city of Ramallah (31°53'07"N, 35°13'00"E; New Israel Grid 220559.86E - 643543.35N; Old Israel Grid 1706.1144) at 848 m (2762’) above sea level (Fig 1). The site sits on the trunk road running along the spine of the central hill country, connecting Hebron and Jerusalem on the south with important sites to the north, such as Samaria and Shechem. Tell en-Naṣbeh also sits near to the northern border of the tribe of Benjamin. Its location made it an important border fortress, protecting Jerusalem from attacks from the north (in Isaiah 10:27b–32 an imagined attacker diverts his approach on Jerusalem by taking the more roundabout eastern Michmash pass, rather than take the main road past Mizpah). The site, excluding surrounding cemeteries, is about 250 m north to south and 160 m east to west (Fig.2 and Plan of Plans below). It covers an area of 3.2 hectares (ca. 8 acres), though the area inside the fortifications only amounts to about 2.4 hectares and the actual area occupied by houses is only a bit over 1.7 hectares...

Memphis: Egypt's Ancient Capital

Memphis: Egypt's Ancient Capital
http://memphisegypt.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/11/Logo1.png
Welcome to Memphis, Egypt’s first capital city and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Memphis was once a vast settlement, with magnificent temples, palaces and ports.
Rulers of Egypt were buried in pyramids near to the city. Without Memphis, the world famous Pyramids of Giza may never have existed!
The temples of Memphis were some of the most important in Ancient Egypt. The only other ancient Egyptian city that you could compare it to would be Thebes (Luxor). Yet today we know far less about Memphis.
Soon, for the first time, you will be able to explore seven newly opened sites of this once bustling ancient city. Until then, you can visit a large collection of impressive statues, sphinxes and sarcophagi in the Memphis Open-Air Museum.
Unlike many sites in Egypt, much of Memphis has not been rebuilt. Its temples, chapels and tombs can be seen as they would have looked when first uncovered by archaeologists.
